Hey, Everybody, I Bought a Banjo

Hard times are a-comin, hard times on the way
You might not have tomorrow what you got today
Dark clouds are a-gathering and the skies are turning gray
But hey, everybody, I bought a banjo, everything’s gonna be okay

Hey, everybody, I bought a banjo, everything’s gonna be okay
We’ll dance and sing round the front porch swing, gonna chase them blues away
I don’t have it with me right now, had to put it in the shop
But when I get it out again, good times will never stop

I normally wouldn’t sing in this part, it’s an instrumental break
Where I rip off some licks and do all sorts of tricks to make you give your head a shake
But like I said, I left my banjo at home, I’ll bring it another day
Oh, yeah, right, I mean in the shop, that’s what I meant to say

Hey, everybody I bought a banjo, don’t worry about anything
You’ll be tapping your feet and jumping out of your seat when you hear me play that thing
I’d be the most popular guy in school if you knew all the stuff I could do
Hey, everybody, I bought a banjo, it really really really is true

Thanks for offering me your banjo, but that’s a different kind
Mine’s specially made for experts, I been playing since I was nine
I know I never mentioned it before, I thought everybody knew
When I’m not practicing karate, playing banjo’s all I do

[Break]

Yeah, I’m really good at karate, I don’t like to blow my horn
But one time these guys tried to jump me, I made ’em wish they’d never been born
Couldn’t really see how many there were, I know three of them had guns
If you don’t believe me ask my girlfriend when she visits from Edmonton

Hey, everybody, I bought a banjo, you better listen to what I say
You might not have tomorrow what you got today
My English teacher’s scared of my poems, but she still gave me an A
Hey, everybody, I bought a banjo, everything’s gonna be okay
Hey, everybody, I bought a banjo, hard times are on the way
